DAISY Hill got the better of fellow Bolton League club Blackrod at St James Street last Sunday.

Blackrod batted first and scored 212 with some good batting by George Tipping (82) and Daniel Robinson (36). Imtiaz Cheema picked up five wickets for just 30 runs.

In reply Daisy Hill batted steadily with Steven Kenny (73) and Cheema (46) provided more than half the runs as they chased down the target in the final over, finishing on 216-8. Matthew Fanning (4-43) and Daniel Cooke (3-50) did their best to dismiss the Daisy Hill batting.

Daisy Hill’s next game is a top-of-the-table clash at Burscough, with the winners surely on course for the Division One title.

Division Two leaders Atherton continued their unbeaten run with a fairly easy victory at Goose Green. Atherton won the toss and elected to bat scoring 325-8 from their 40 overs. Daniel Hughes top-scored with 111 and James Mulqueeny finished unbeaten on 68, while Edward Millington took four wickets for the home side.

In reply Goose Green never really got into second gear and collapsed to 101 all out. Only Jordan Gore (43no) offered any resistance to superb bowling from Atherton, particularly Daniel Ashton (4-16). Jack Welch wrapped up the tail with two wickets in three balls he bowled with no runs conceded. One win from their last three games could now be enough for Atherton to win the division.
