EDGWORTH recorded a crucial win against Glossop on Saturday to keep their Premier Division survival hopes alive.

The Greater Manchester League's basement side are now six points from safety in a tightly-congested relegation zone following their final-over victory.

Chris Bentley bowled a five-wicket haul for Edgworth which, with support from Josh Fallows who took 3-41, saw the hosts bowled out for 160.

Gionne Koopman was the only notable batter, knocking a half-century.

Edgworth opener Adam Syddall hit 32 in reply, before Liam Watkinson struck 62 as the visitors ran out three-wicket winners.

At the top of the table Egerton suffered a shock defeat to Flixton. However, third-placed Prestwich beat second-placed Clifton to ensure the Bolton-based side remain at the summit, but only three points now separate the top three.

Zain Abbas (65) and Kasun Ranasinghe (58) spent more than two hours at the crease together to put on a 123-run opening-wicket partnership.

But their team-mates failed to deal with the immense bowling of Usman Tariq (8-25) and Egerton were bowled out for 174.

A consistent batting line up allowed Flixton to take control of the game, with Luke Perry (57) and Alton Beckford (35 not out) starring with the bat to secure a four-wicket victory.

Meanwhile in Division One, Astley and Tyldesley fell further into trouble and remain bottom of the table as they lost to relegation rivals Worsley.

After putting on a score of 244 with the bat, the Gin Pit outfit were unable to stay in control of the game as their target was chased down with three wickets to spare.
