EGERTON'S Megan Fairclough led her Lancashire Women's team to a nailbiting win on the final day of the season to seal the ECB Women's County Championship Division Two title and promotion back to the top flight.

After a three-hour delay, play finally got under way in Newport and Fairclough won the toss and put Wales into bat on a damp pitch.

After a steady start, the Welsh side's innings was undermined by a spell of 3-10 from Horwich RMI's Nalisha Patel and two brilliant run-outs by Astley Bridge's Shachi Pai.

Wales collapsed to 79 all out.

However, any thoughts of a comfortable win soon disappeared as Lancashire found batting just as difficult and collapsed to 23-6.

Pai came in and played a superb supporting role in helping England's Sophie Ecclestone add 51 for the seventh wicket and take them to the brink of victory.

Egerton's Bhumika Doshi then came in to help finish the job to seal the title and promotion.
