LOSTOCK capped a super season with a prized victory in their local derby with Horwich.

The top-six clash was a low-scoring affair which remained in the balance until Lostock’s numbers eight and nine Lucky Issa and David Flanagan saw them over the line.

A brilliant six-wicket haul by Flanagan – widely regarded as one of the best amateur bowlers in the league – and 4-40 from the club’s best-performing bowler this season, Rob Holgate, saw Horwich all out for 125.

Horwich opener Tom Billington continued his fine season as he top scored with 33 but no one was able to stay in for long after that apart from Connor Dalton who scored 29 later on.

Lostock started brightly with the bat, opener Matthew Leach scoring 30, number three Jaydyn Simmons, 30, and number four Steven Hood, 23, before the wickets started to tumble and Horwich started to smell a comeback victory.

Harry McManus took 3-27 and Phil Ingram 3-19 and at 102-6 and 117-7 Horwich were not out of it until Issa and Flanagan saw Lostock over the line for a victory that sees them finish sixth in the table and Horwich fifth.

Kearsley captain Darren Whittle reflected on a satisfactory season after his side won by 122 runs at Atherton.

The Springfield Road men posted 222-7 then got the home side out for 100 to leave them in seventh position in the table and with a place in the Lancashire Knockout next season.

While happy enough with his side's overall performance this season Whittle is looking for an improvement in the next campaign when this season's top 10 form the first division and the remainder comprise the second tier.

"Our first objective was to finish in the top 10 then after that in a Lancashire Knockout place and we've achieved that," he said.

"Short of winning the league I suppose that's success but we're already planning for next season and we hope to be challenging for the title."
