FARNWORTH Social Circle were crowned Lancashire's indoor champions after coming out on top at the LCB county finals day at Emirates Old Trafford on Sunday.

The reigning Bolton Cricket League champions qualified for finals day at the indoor cricket centre at the county ground following their Anthony Axford Indoor Trophy triumph against Horwich at the beginning of the year.

And they were joined in a round-robin competition by Orrell Red Triangle, of the Liverpool and District Cricket Competition, and Blackburn and District Amateur Cricket League side Bharuch.

Both Social Circle and Orrell Red Triangle overcame Bharuch in their first fixtures to set up what was a winner-takes-all encounter in the final fixture of the day.

Batting first, Social Circle scored 130 in their 12 overs – a score generally considered to be around par.

However a devastating spell by Ryan Ayres (5-10) left Orrell Red Triangle 73 all out as the Bolton Cricket League club were crowned champions.

The Piggott Park outfit will now go on to represent Lancashire in the 2017 ECB Indoor National Club Championships and will take on the champions of Yorkshire in February.

Victory in that Roses clash would send them into the regional finals and in with a chance of reaching the national finals at Lords.
