PROMOTION is the only thing on Edgworth's mind this season.

The Bolton Road men were relegated from the Greater Manchester League Premier Division last season and their top priority is to bounce straight back up.

They have started with one win and a defeat in the league with an impressive 91-run away victory against Northern League side Fleetwood in the National Knockout in between.

They struggled for runs when they lost to Woodhouses on the opening day of the league season – although Woodhouses also restricted Unsworth to 74 runs seven days later and appear to have two effective spinners.

Edgworth had no such problems in beating an albeit modest Worsley side last weekend, racking up 316 in a 168-run victory.

They should get a bigger test against Stretford on Saturday when Edgworth are at home for the first time this season.

But new captain Adam Syddall has seen plenty of reasons to be cheerful in the opening three games.

"I couldn't have asked for a better start really," he said.

"Apart from a minor blip with the bat on the first day I am very pleased."

But he admits he will only feel the same at the end of the season if his team are back in the Premier League.

"The goal is promotion," he said. "All we are after is a top-four finish.

"It's the obvious target and anything less than that would be disappointing."

New professional Clyde Fortuin scored a century against Worsley when there was a memorable debut for wicketkeeper Josh McGreavy, who has arrived from Heaton.

"It was nice for our pro to get off to a good start with a hundred," he said.

"Jamie Smith scored 88 as well and looks a different player this season. He's obviously been working hard in the winter.

"Liam Watkinson's spin bowling is a bit of a revelation. His spin came in at university and it's good to see that Liam as a spin option has come to the fore.

"It gives us bowling options with Josh Fallows, Chris King and myself seamers.

"Josh McGreavy had a great start with five victims on his league debut. He has fit in really well and is a fantastic addition."
