EGDWORTH maintained their impressive start to the season with a 54-run victory against Stretford in the GMCL First Division.

Opening pair Jamie Smith (28) and Josh Fallows (33) put on a 45-run partnership before number three, pro Clyde Fortuin, hit 37.

A strong middle and late batting order of Brett Ernst, Guy Haynes, Kieran Shields, Adam Syddall and Josh McGreavy, all achieved double figures as the Bolton outfit commanded an impressive score of 194-8 against a side which had won both of their opening games.

Liam Watkinson and Syddall then shone with the ball, taking four wickets each, as Stretford fell for 140. Oral Rankine top scored with 35.

Paul Bennett starred with the ball for Astley and Tyldesley as they wrapped up maximum points against Glossop’s second team in the Second Division.

Bennett’s 5-19, along with skipper Jimmy Cutt’s 3-28, had Glossop bowled out for 133. Steve Bates top scored with 42.

In the second innings Cutt struck a half-century. Nathan Moore also knocked 36 before Nathan McDonnell finished the match with 38 not out.

The Gin Pit side’s win for the loss of one wicket, lifts them up to fifth.

Egerton’s struggle in the top flight continued as they suffered a third successive loss at home to Bamford Fieldhouse.

The Blackburn Road side failed to deal with former Farnworth bowler Melbourne Austin whose five-wicket haul for 21 runs led to the Bolton outfit’s dismissal for a mere 55 runs.

Matt Parkinson took 2-25 in a bid to scavenge a result, but the lowly target was achieved easily with Mitchell Renwick top scoring with 16.

Egerton currently languish two places above the foot of the table on one point.
