EGERTON recorded their first win of the season at the fifth time of asking in convincing style against Glossop.

The Blackburn Road side had lost all of their opening four games but finally got off the mark on Saturday.

After rain reduced the game to 22-overs per side, opener Tom Fairclough got the ball rolling with a knock of 18.

Mahela Udawatte then hit 37 before Marcus Pratt added 42.

Fifth-placed batsman Matt Parkinson chipped in with 12 not out as Egerton tallied 127-4.

Will Hargreaves was the pick of the bowlers taking 2-28.

Glossop wicketkeeper Dale Pennington replied with a score of 37 but none of his team-mates could hit double figures as they were bowled out for 85 – Ramiz Patel, Parkinson and Pratt taking two wickets each.

The win leaves Egerton third-bottom of the table – one point above basement side Walshaw.

Elsewhere, Astley and Tyldesley rose to second in the Division Two table with victory over Droylsden.

Nathan McDonnell bowled a five-wicket haul and Chris Ware took 3-16 as the hosts were bowled out for 93 inside 22 overs.

Opener Paul Smith was the only batsman of note hitting 24.

A&T skipper Jimmy Cutt responded with a knock of 23 but his first three partners at the crease fell for a combined total of six runs.

Aaron Booth, batting at six, was instrumental for the hosts as he whacked 35 off 18 balls – including five boundaries – to see off the target with four wickets to spare.

The Gin Pit club are now only two points behind league leaders Thornham.

Edgworth’s home match against Flowery Fields fell foul of the weather and was abandoned without play.

The Bolton Road club remain sixth in the table following the two points awarded for the cancellation.
