FARNWORTH skipper Simon Booth was left frustrated by the weather as his side suffered a second abandonment of the Bolton League’s Premiership campaign.

The Lavender Road side hosted Horwich on Saturday and did get going, albeit later than scheduled.

But with the visitors on 8-0 after two overs, the heavens opened and the teams had to concede defeat.

It was disappointing for Booth but he took comfort he wasn’t the only captain denied by the wet weather.

The Farnworth skipper told The Bolton News: “It is disappointing but at least we were not on our own.

“Credit to our groundsman that we even got started.

“There was a lot of mopping up and after a couple of tries we got started at 4pm but then, two overs in, it started raining again so we called it a day.

“You wouldn’t think we were in June – that’s two of our four league games that have been abandoned now.

“It was a problem for us last season as well and affected our league position.

“It can be unfair if other teams get a game on but yesterday all games were abandoned so no one stole a march on anyone else.”

As well as Farnworth’s clash with Horwich, the Premiership Division matches between Bradshaw and Walkden, Eagley and Kearsley, Lostock and Farnworth Social Circle and Westhoughton and Heaton were all abandoned without a ball being bowled.

It means it is as you were in the table with Farnworth sixth, one place below local rivals Social Circle and eight points behind leaders Bradshaw.

Booth admits his side have started the season poorly but doesn’t believe they are far away from form. “I don’t think we are a million miles away,” he said.

“We have had a poor start having been knocked out of two cups, though we had tough draws.

“We were well beaten by Walkden in one and that was hugely disappointing and then we lost to Denton West in the last over in the Lancs Knockout.

“In the league, I think we would have beaten Bradshaw without the rain.

“So we know we are not far away as long as we can beat the weather.”

It was much the same story on Saturday in the Association Division where there was no play at the matches between Adlington and Little Hulton, Astley Bridge and Tonge, Blackrod and Little Lever and Darcy Lever against Daisy Hill.

At Atherton, the match against Golborne did get under way and the hosts made 47-0 with skipper Calum Barlow (15 not out) and David Tantsis-Hall (23no) setting them off well.

But 11 overs in the rains came and the match was abandoned with Atherton staying level on points with leaders Adlington.
