CLIFTON became the last team to reach the quarter-finals of the Cross Cup on Sunday with a five-wicket victory over Spring View.

The two former Bolton Association sides met at the Wigan club’s ground with the hosts posting 144 all out in the first innings, Andy Holt taking 5-22.

Sam Dorsey top-scored in Clifton’s reply with 48.

The competition has been revived this year by Bolton Association stalwarts and committee members after not being played for in 2016 due to the league going into suspension.

Fifteen clubs, who all played for Lancashire’s oldest cricket cup in the past, accepted invitations to play.

Seven matches were scheduled in the first round with Edgworth given a bye.

Organisers say they are pleased with the success of the competition so far and with the positive feedback they have received from clubs.

Games are 45 overs, umpires are provided by the organisers and clubs are able to play their games by a certain date and are free to arrange them on a mutually convenient Sunday.

The second round action begins this Sunday when Eagley host Walshaw.

The other games in the last-eight are Adlington v Edgworth, Clifton v Little Hulton and Roe Green v Flixton.

These matches must be played by July 23.
