EGERTON and Horwich were both dumped out of the Lancashire Knockout at the last-16 stage on Sunday to end Bolton's interest in the competition.

Egerton failed to progress as they were beaten at home by Liverpool Competition top division side Lytham.

Professional Mahela Udawatte, batting third, got the runs rolling for the GMCL Premier Division outfit with a score of 74.

Marcus Pratt then added 32 and Egerton looked to be going well on 140-3.

But then something of a collapse ensued as the visitors' bowling attack of Ryan Maddock (3-27), Jack Saunders (3-38) and Ben Saunders (3-36) cranked up the pressure and the hosts were bowled out for 179.

Ramiz Patel did his best with the ball to stop Lytham’s response, taking 2-18, but the Liverpool Competition side just had too much for Egerton as Taylor Cornall (63), Matthew Taaffe (56 not out) and Josh Holden (35no) secured victory with seven wickets to spare.

Horwich were also on the receiving end when they travelled to Lancashire League side Burnley.

It was always going to be difficult for the Railwaymen against a good side, especially without their overseas player Fazil Hassan who was unavailable.

Horwich made a decent enough start with Burnley on 57-3, but the next wicket did not fall until the home side had reached 116.

They went on to post 197-9 – professional Brett Pelser taking 2-21, skipper Phil Ingram 2-31 and Liam Bones 2-29 – which, after an encouraging start, ultimately proved well out of reach of the Bolton League side.

Horwich began their reply well, reaching 39 before their first batsman was out, Ingram leading from the front with 30.

But with little support the wickets fell quickly and they were all out for 108.
