BOLTON District Under-13s reached the final of the Hacking Cup when they beat Wigan District in a thrilling semi-final on Tuesday.

The team, which is coached by Mark Atherton and Dave Morris, earned a final date with Blackpool on September 8 after pulling off a thrilling victory over Wigan with just two balls of their 40 overs remaining.

Josh Little scored a super unbeaten century as Bolton successfully chased down Wigan’s 194-7 at Highfield Cricket Club.

He put on 151 with Seb Schofield (48) for the second wicket before Joe Cumberbatch came in and finished off the job in style with 18 runs off five balls.

With three overs to go the game was in the balance with Bolton needing 23 runs. When Schofield was dismissed, Cumberbatch led Bolton to victory with his stunning batting performance.

He began his five-ball show with a huge six, following up with a four and finishing off with another six as Bolton ended on 200-2.

Schofield had earlier taken 2-36 off his eight overs. He and fellow opening bowler Louis Greenhalgh have bowled tightly throughout a campaign which saw them emerge from their qualifying group along with Wigan – who they beat in their group game – and Bury District, and then beat Ribble Valley in Clitheroe in the quarter-finals last week.
