ASTLEY and Tyldesley made it six wins in a row by beating Elton to remain top of the Greater Manchester Cricket League Division Two table.

Nathan McDonnell (4-43) and Chris Ware (3-28) starred with the ball as the Gin Pit outfit bowled out their hosts for 134.

The score would have been much lower had it not been for a late fightback from number nine batsman Daniel Lomax, who struck an unbeaten 31.

Skipper Jimmy Cutt scored 24 and McDonnell added 27 at the start of the Astley and Tyldesley reply, but it was Aaron Booth who starred with the bat as his 66 not out helped them reach their target with seven wickets to spare.

Egerton dropped into the bottom three of the Premier Division after they lost to relegation rivals Bury.

Skipper Will Halton opened with a knock of 45 as the Blackburn Road side began the first innings well.

Mahela Udawatte added 27, batting at number three, but the run-rate dropped off as wickets began to tumble and they finished on a modest total of 159-9.

Bury impressed in reply as Mohammed Jamal (65) and Casmond Walters (28) put on 91 runs for the opening wicket.

Kasun Adikari then drove home their advantage, scoring 34 not out, as Bury made it home with the loss of four wickets.

In Division One, Edgworth suffered their first defeat in three games at home to Greenmount.

Professional Clyde Fortuin hit 26 and Nick Kernick struck an unbeaten 33 as the Barlow Grounds outfit were bowled out for 140.

Mark Stewart (3-33) and Phil Heaton (3-25) did the damage with the ball.

In-form Greenmount pro Kaustub Pawar opened their reply with 42 and overseas player Sachin Varadarajan hit 34 as they completed the run chase with three wickets to spare.

The defeat was tough on Edgworth bowler Adam Syddall, who produced a sterling display to finish with figures of 4-36.
