TONGE captain Danny Delvard is keeping cool about his side’s promotion chances after they kept up the pace with the top three after beating Little Lever.

Tilaksha Malshan (3-28), Cameron Lucas (3-27) and Alex Rodzoch (4-14) impressed with the ball to bowl the Victory Road side out for 77.

Tonge almost threw away their good work in the first innings when they went out to bat after coming under pressure from the bowling of Adil Nisar (4-41) and Curtis Anderton (4-22).

But a seventh-wicket partnership of Iqbal Gulzar (21 not out) and Craig Buckley (10) steered the visitors to a two-wicket win.

“I’ve said to the lads we need to take each game as it comes now,” Delvard said. “If we can win 50 per cent of our next four games we will have a serious shot at it.

“We can’t bowl a team out for 77 then just scrape a result. Both teams bowled well but our batting was a bit Kamikaze.

“Results all across the league have been topsy-turvy but if we want to be putting any sort of challenge on we have to be better.

“Saturday was more about the collective. We have been reliant on our pro quite a few times this year, I suppose that’s why he gets paid, but when he fails with the bat we need to rally round. He's only human.

"Regardless of whether we make promotion or not the club as a whole has come a long way from where we were a few years ago so it will definitely be a season to celebrate."

Elsewhere, Astley Bridge got back to winning ways with a five-wicket victory away to Little Hulton.

Fida Hussain (33), Sajawal Khan (36) and Asim Bhatti (26) hit decent knocks and Little Hulton were bowled out for 148.

Syd De Silva bowled a six-wicket haul before turning his hand to the bat and scoring 40no as the Sharples Park side cruised to victory.
