EGERTON gave their Greater Manchester Cricket League Premier Division survival hopes a boost by beating bottom side Glossop.

Skipper Will Halton took his time in reaching 29 as he opened the scoring for the Blackburn Road side.

Third-placed batsman Mahela Udawatte added 51 from 68 deliveries before Matt Parkinson chipped in with 15.

However, a late collapse saw the score shift from 131-4 to 154 all out. Steve Hunt (2-32), Chris Tipper (3-43) and Will Hargreaves (4-21) did the damage with the ball.

Glossop never really got going with the bat in the second innings as opener Tipper was the only batsman of note striking 20.

Amal Dalugoda (3-27), Parkinson (3-15), Halton (2-24) and Marcus Pratt (2-5) turned the screw with the ball which saw the hosts bowled out for 93.

Egerton currently occupy the final relegation spot but remain only five points behind Prestwich and Clifton.

In Division Two Astley and Tyldesley continued their remarkable form with a five-wicket win at home to Droylsden.

The visitors were ticking along nicely early on as Alex Cicchirillo (27), Aaqib Uppal (28) and Mike Schofield (38) all scored high.

Danny Naylor then chipped in with 22 but Chris Ware (3-29) and Jimmy Cutt (3-38) began to crank through the gears with the ball and Droylsden were bowled out for 158.

The Gin Pit outfit had a spread of the runs when they came out to bat, kick-started by openers Cutt (10) and Dean Petrie (19).

Aaron Booth added 23 before Nathan McDonnell knocked his third half-century of the season to score 51 not out.

His partner Paull Bennett (34no) was also hugely influential in securing A&T’s seventh straight win which leaves them five points clear at the top of the table.

Edgworth won away to Flowery Field in Division Two.

The Barlow Grounds outfit were bowled out for 139 in the first innings but they responded by dismissing their hosts for 136 with the last ball of the match.
