BOLTON cricketer Matthew Parkinson has been named Lancashire’s young player of the year.

The 20-year-old from Heaton won the award after making a big impression in the second half of the season following injury.

He was the Red Rose county’s leading wicket taker in the NatWest T20 Blast with 14 and took the same number of wickets in the Specsavers County Championship in just five matches at an average of 22.

Parkinson, who began as a junior at Heaton Cricket Club and went to Bolton School and Canon Slade Sixth Form College, will be returning to Heaton CC on Friday night along with his twin brother Callum – who plays for Leicestershire – to hand out the prizes at their junior presentation.
