WINTON groundsman Mike Humphreys received the county’s top honour in his field when he won the Lancashire Groundsperson of the Year award.
Humphreys, who has been a member of the club, which joined the Bolton Association this year, since 1972, has captained all three senior sides and been responsible for the ground for more than two decades.
The award, presented at the annual Lancashire Cricket Board OSCAs award ceremony at Old Trafford, is the most prestigious in the county.
It acknowledges Humphreys’ efforts which see him down at the ground seven days a week, often starting before 7am, and assisted by another club stalwart Peter McDonald who also runs two of Winton’s four junior teams.
Humphreys, who beat off competition from Middleton who have hosted Lancashire second team games, recently had a major shoulder operation but was back working on the ground within two days with his arm in a sling.
