LEFT arm swing bowler Ryan Sidebottom celebrated winning the LV County Championship title with Nottinghamshire at Old Trafford last night then revealed he could join Lancashire this winter.
On the day the Red Rose county lost one England star in Andrew Flintoff, the idea of them gaining another was floated. “They’ve put their hands up to come in for me,” said 32-yearold Sidebottom, who played his part in a thrilling finish as the Trent Bridge side clinched their second pennant in six seasons.
“They’re a northern club, and I’m a northern lad. I’d be more than happy to think about it.”
Lancashire coach Peter Moores, who was with England when Sidebottom returned to the international fold in 2007, said: “We would be interested in Ryan. He is a fantastic cricketer. But there are a lot of people interested, and it is one of those which will run its course.”
Notts needed to pick up nine points during the final day of the season yesterday to secure the title, assuming rivals Somerset and Yorkshire failed to win. Somerset drew, while Yorkshire lost.
It meant they had to get up to 400 and then take three Lancashire wickets.
Adam Voges (126) and Samit Patel (96) played brilliantly before Sidebottom and Andre Adams removed Karl Brown, Mark Chilton and Shivnarine Chanderpaul inside five overs.
