Flanagan's late strike

Bolton 1sts 2 Doncaster 2nds 1 A LATE goal from David Flanagan sealed a vital victory which gave Bolton a confidence-boost as they jostle for position at the midway point of the season.

Bolton, who began the game in eighth place, got off to a flying start against 11th-placed Doncaster when they deservedly took the lead after 20 minutes.

The script could not have been written better for Bolton's John Woods who applied the finishing touch to a fine move against his former club.

Bolton's new-look defence had to stand firm, with Andrew Goulding impressive on his debut, as Doncaster piled on the pressure as they looked to get back on level terms with the half-time break approaching.

Neither side could get a foothold in a scrappy second half and it was Doncaster who got the crucial next goal as they grabbed an equaliser.

Three Bolton defenders failed to deal with a mazy dribble by a Doncaster forward who finished his solo run with a cross which his team-mate could not miss.

The goal sparked Bolton into life, but they had to wait until practically the last touch of the game for the winning goal.

Skipper Martin Luke started the decisive move, sending Matt Lomax free down the right. His pass found Liam Dudley whose cross was deflected expertly by Woods into the path of David Flanagan who was on hand to calmly hammer the ball home from two yards out.
