BOLTON Men's first team hit top form to edge out Leeds University 6-5, but not before a late scare.
Though Bolton failed to find a finish to their inspired attacking through open play, the outstanding Andy Bull kept punishing their opponents from penalty corners and grabbed a first-half hat-trick with three almost identical flicks.
Leeds had no answer to the control and assurance of the Bolton passing and were on the back-foot for most of the half. However, they did manage to grab a lifeline with a breakaway goal just before the break.
Bolton increased their lead to 6-2 with further goals from Chris Aitken (2) and Scott Evans but they encountered a last 15 minutes they would like to forget quickly.
Leeds pulled the game back to 6-5 and seemed to score every time they had the ball in the Bolton area. It was only through some resilient defending that Bolton managed to hold on for the victory.
A Bolton Badgers team, which included several overage players, overcame Brookland Beavers 11-0.

The ladies firsts suffered a disappointing 4-3 defeat at the hands of Poynton seconds.
Bolton started the game brightly with midfield duo Ashton Duerden and Louise Robbins creating excellent chances.
Their hard work paid off when Jenny Cocker opened the scoring and Duerden made it two with a drag flick from the top of the D.
Bolton sat back and let Poynton back into the game and equalised before the break.
Jay Mortimer scored early in the second half as Bolton regained the lead, but Poynton again levelled. With two minutes left Bolton were denied a penalty appeal and Poynton broke a,way and grabbed the winner.
