THE Brierfield and Nicholsons sit level at the top of section C, but it was the former who progressed to the Chadwick Cup quarter-finals following their 99-82 victory. Charlene Hamer led the way with 22 runs.
In the Dixon Shield, Section F's Adlington St Pauls beat Jacksons, from the league above, 208-186. Trailing 16 points at half-time, a brave attempt from Jacksons to turn the match around in the second half with 17 runs each from Sharon Maguire and Leigh Prescott could not stop Adlington from holding onto the lead and securing their place in the next round.
Prices B may be struggling for points in Section I, but they claimed their place in the last eight of the Blackburn Shield at the expense of Section G's Grey Mare Ladies. Shelley Appleton scored 29 and Kara Mathews 25 in the 138-123 win.
In the Pike Shield quarter-finals, Jenna Ashton was Darcy Blues' matchwinner as they overcame Dunscar Bridge Ladies by just four runs. Ashton top-scored with 40.
The Horwich Shield brought together two Westhoughton teams. Westhoughton CC Ladies led Westhoughton Primary Ladies by 64 runs at the halfway stage, but it was the latter who reached the quarter-finals after an incredible 247-237 comeback. Raelene Strickland was Primary Ladies top scorer with 74 runs.
The first match in the annual series of Interleague meetings with Bury takes place on Friday at Little Lever CC at 7pm. The new over-45s manager Marie Kirkman will select the team from the following squad: Chris Bagley, Michelle Barber, Melanie Berry, Gillian Bolger, Diane Christie, Christine Fletcher, Anne Grundy, Ruth Hamnett, Susan Karim, Jean Philbin, Jane Trafford, Christine Walsh and Jackie Wright.
Senior and Intermediate Interleague practices will be held at Barlow Park (middle pitch) tomorrow, Monday, and Monday, June 16, all 6.45pm. Contact Debbie Booth (sen) Gail Nicholson (int) on the numbers in the 2008 handbook.
