BOLTON'S senior team beat Bury in an exciting match to go 3-1 ahead in the interleague series.
Bolton opened the batting with 86 runs. Joanne Mullard was last batter and top scorer with 16, and Bury replied with 51, K Bond with 15 runs topping their batting.
In the second innings Bolton lost five players first time around for no score.
But Sarah Gradwell with 16 runs, Catherine Crilly six, and Anne Truffas four, pushed Bolton's score to 41 after some good fielding from Bury.
Bury started the second innings well, with 14 runs from the first round, and losing just one player.
As they edged towards a winning score, Bolton's fielding improved to dismiss the visitors for 52 and win the match 127-108.
The first of the return matches takes place on Friday at Elton Vale Sports Club, 7pm start, when the over-45s will attempt to reverse the result of their previous meeting.
Darcy Lever CC A met Rupert Ladies A in a battle at the top of Section A.
Rupert scored 96 runs in their first innings and, in reply, Darcy scored 45 and were forced to bat again - scoring 79 next time around.
Rupert lost six players in the first round of the second innings for no score, and two more in the second round.
After this excellent fielding Darcy must have felt this game could still be theirs.
However, Anne Truffas 30, Debbie Booth 18, and Mandy Makin eight had other ideas and pushed Rupert's score to 64 to win the match 160-124, and go two points clear.
Both teams progressed to the semi-finals of the Chadwick Cup at the expense of Bradbury Ladies and Daisy Hill CC A.
Bradbury did better in the league when they took advantage of a slip by Egerton PBC, who lost to Westside by beating Widdows Mason to go joint top of Section B.
Little Lever Sports Club A picked up two valuable points in a close encounter with Heaton CC.
Stella Pickup 50, Mary Freeman 36, and Denise Cowcill 27 were the Sports Club's top scorers when they beat Heaton by just five runs.
Barren Ladies go into the second half of the season top of Section I, and unbeaten after a 222-148 win against Prices B.
