LEIGH Centurions’ celebrations at the return of Ian Millward as coach next season have to be placed on the backburner tomorrow night as they look to the immediate task of avoiding relegation.
Nick Stanton and Dave Alstead both look doubtful for the Centurions’ second trip to Halifax in a month and they will look for a big improvement after they were outclasssed 54-16 last time out against the Yorkshiremen.
Coach Paul Rowley said: “The positive thing to come out of the defeat at Whitehaven last week was that we have a lot more to offer than what we’ve been showing. We did that and can kick on from that. We are still upbeat and buoyant.
“I thought we had a gameplan that could trouble Halifax last time, and for spells of the game we did. Unfortunately for us, we got undone by a few quality players.
“That is Halifax. They have quality all over the park. But they’ve had a wobble. They’ll want to return to winning ways but we’ll try and combat that.”
