RUGBY LEAGUE: Warrington captain Adrian Morley has been cleared to play in Saturday’s Engage Super League clash against Wigan but his front-row colleague Garreth Carvell will miss the match through suspension.
Morley was found not guilty of a high tackle on Castleford scrum-half Brent Sherwin when he appeared before the Rugby Football League’s disciplinary committee in Leeds.
The England international was cited by the RFL’s match review panel, which also charged Carvell with illegal use of the forearm on Tigers prop Paul Jackson during the Wolves’ 28-16 win.
Former Leeds and Hull prop Carvell was found guilty and handed a one-match ban, although it is thought the club may appeal.
Meanwhile, Wigan’s Cameron Phelps has been ruled out for four weeks after damaging ankle ligaments.
The Australian full-back was forced off at half-time in Warriors’ 32-6 victory against Hull KR on Friday night.
It was feared Phelps may have broken a bone and would be sidelined for up to three months, but a scan has revealed the injury is not as bad as first thought.
“It’s a lot more positive than we first thought and he’s able to walk on it which is even better,” said coach Michael Maguire.
“But he’s a loss. He’s been playing really well and has been very busy around the ball and, defensively, he’s been working very hard on his game.”
Amos Roberts will move to full-back for Saturday’s showdown at Warrington, with Darrell Goulding or Shaun Ainscough taking over on the wing. Second row Phil Bailey is still missing with an Achilles injury.
