Warriors on the hunt for blood at Jungle

MICHAEL Maguire believes Wigan’s big cats are key to victory at the Jungle.

The leaders travel to Castleford on Sunday level on points with Warrington at the top of Super League.

Warriors’ flair players have hogged most of the headlines this season and did so once again in last Friday’s eight-try romp against Hull FC. But coach Maguire says the front row have been the real heroes this term — and feels props Stuart Fielden, Andy Coley, Paul Prescott and Eamon O’Carroll must be on top of their game again if they are to tame the Tigers.

“Our front row has been doing a great job,” said Maguire. “They’ve really been rolling us forward and setting a platform for the rest of the team.

“They’ve been working very hard at their games — both in attack and defence.

“The front row battle is a key area for every game and it will be no different this weekend.

“What happens up front allows everyone to do what they do out back.

“They’ve been performing and they need to keep doing that. As long as the front row continue to lay that platform, we’ll continue to move in the right direction.”

Maguire, meanwhile, brushed aside criticism from Richard Agar over Wigan slowing down the play-the-ball.

The Hull coach mooted the idea of two referees after accusing the hosts of delaying tactics at the DW Stadium in his side’s 48-24 defeat as the debate rages on following Melbourne’s tactics in their World Club Challenge win over Leeds.

But Maguire said: “It’s part of the game and has been for as long as I can remember.”
