Bolton thirds' dramatic draw
THE pick of Bolton's games turned out to be the third team's Avenue Street clash with Fylde which ended in a 10-10 draw.
It was never going to be easy for the hosts against the second-placed team in the North Lancashire League Division Four.
Fylde put the Bolton forwards under pressure from the start with some powerful mauling and rucking, which the home side dealt with manfully.
The highly competitive nature of the game led to Bolton scrum-half Wayne Banks taking the law into his own hands and he induced a yellow card from the referee at time when the player looked like he needed a rest anyway.
The home side then took the lead against all the odds with a penalty before Banks returned to the fray, only for captain Richard Bathwater then to be yellow carded.
Bolton had the wind at their backs in the second half, but could not break through with Guy Lovgreen missing a penalty in front of the posts.
The visitors moved the game up-field and scored a try which was converted to make the score 7-3.
Bolton responded with a try from full-back Walsh which was brilliantly converted from the touchline by Lovegreen to give his side a 10-7 advantage.
But their chance of victory was snatched away when the referee awarded Fylde a penalty which allowed them to level.
Meanwhile, the first team were unable to register a score, going down to Heaton Moor 11-0 at Avenue Street.
The deadlock was broken when the referee inadvertently signalled a penalty to Bolton, only to reverse it to Heaton Moor.
As the Bolton players relaxed, they were caught out on the reversal by the Moor scrum half, who took a quick tap and ran half the length of the pitch to score.
A further penalty late in the game gave the Stockport men a flattering victory.
The weakened second team were visitors to Fylde and were well-beaten 35-5.
Bolton Under-13s progressed to the semi-finals of the Junior Vase semi-final with a 30-0 victory over Tyldesley with tries coming from Tyler Corless, Daniel Doyle, Alex Lawless and David Harding.
But the U14s were beaten 12-10 at Ashton-under-Lyne in their quarter-final.
This was a disappointing outcome for the youngsters who had been on a good run of form since Christmas.
There was better news for the U10s who beat Disbury Toch 8-7.
Bolton and Tyldesley U15 girls got in on the act with an impressive 31-10 win at Manchester.
In the team were three girls from Bolton, Rebecca Trist, Georgie Greenwood and Daisy Greaves, combined with nine from Tyldesley to put in an excellent all round performance.
