Jubilant youngsters lift Junior Vase Cup
BOLTON under-13s lifted the Lancashire Junior Vase Trophy with a stunning 20-5 win over Blackburn at Manchester Rugby Club.
The local youngsters used their forward domination to excellent effect while Blackburn looked to spread the ball wide.
Seb Reilly, Tyler Corless and Daniel Doyle proved to be Bolton's outstanding ball-carriers.
The Avenue Street-based boys also had some heroic last-ditch tackling by Matthew Robinson and David Harding to thank for their victory.
Reilly opened the scoring with a powerful run and, in a rare backs move, Richard Gallacher outpaced the Blackburn cover to score a fine try to make the score 10-0 at half-time. Impressive back Matthew Robinson was impeded chasing a loose ball in the in-goal area and man-of-the-match Nathan Stansfield scored from the quick tap penalty.
Blackburn then produced an excellent 10 minute spell and pulled the score back to 15-5 before Bolton gathered themselves for a final onslaught in which Corless scored again from close in.
Meanwhile, Bolton U10s and U12s hosted a round robin competition with Sedgley Park and Broughton Park.
In the first 15 minute match, Bolton U10s and Sedgley Park threw the ball about but the hosts kept their noses in front, scoring four tries to two.
Bolton then tested themselves against a fired-up Broughton side, who scored in the first 20 seconds.
The home side did not let their heads drop and battled at each breakdown but although they tackled like Trojans, they were outscored by six tries to one.
The U12s had a heroic 14-12 win in their game against an excellent Sedgley side with Andy Jolly and captain Nathan Felton outstanding.
In their second game against Broughton Park they emerged 28-14 with tries by Felton, Josh Ledbridge, Hywel Scourfield and Jolly.
In the only senior game, Bolton 4th lost 11-7 at home to Ormskirk, with Andy Jolly senior scoring his debut try.
