A WESTHOUGHTON man has his eyes firmly fixed on one day in July which could decide whether his four years of training has been worth it... to challenge for a Commonwealth medal.

Philip Roberts was only a 20-year-old at the last competition in Delhi but now he thinks experience will stand him in good stead for July 31 when all heats and finals are held.

The Westhoughton High School pupil said: “I am really excited about going to the competition but I just want to get out there and wrestle.

“It will be good having lots of my friends and family there and all of the people who supported me as I was growing up.”

Roberts has had a successful 2014 in which he has won both the British and English senior championships.

He will be battling it out with tough competition from India and South Africa and Nigeria in the 65kg category.
