CANON Slade School came out on top in Bolton Golf Club’s recent competition for young students.

The Super Sixes is a form of quick golf for students that either have no or very little previous experience with the game.

There are six teams, playing six holes, in 60 minutes.

The specially-created six-hole golf course was set up with holes varying from 90 yards to around 50 yards.

Each team of six would start on a different hole and play a Texas Scramble competition.

All players tee off and a decision is then made to determine which is the best ball.

All players then pick up their ball and play from this chosen spot. This continues all the way to the putting green.

On the green the team would nominate a person to take all the putts.

The winning score came from the boys at Canon Slade High School, closely followed by Thornleigh.

A silver medal was presented to every competitor to mark his or her participation.

The winners received an engraved Gold Medal and the title of Bolton Schools Super Sixes champions.

Ian Orrell, Bolton Golf Club’s director of golf said: “The day went amazingly well, with great work by Chris Dyson from Thornleigh Salesian College and, the students seemed to enjoy every minute.

“Here at Bolton Golf Club we are keen to introduce and encourage everybody young and old to the game.

“This format allows youngsters to try a new sport in a very safe and enjoyable environment, we will definitely be organising one again.”
