WESTHOUGHTON'S Philip Roberts admits the Commonwealth Games was a 'great' experience despite losing 6-6 in the countback.

Ex-Westhoughton High School pupil Roberts had picked up early points before Pakistan's Muhammed Salman took the victory in the 65kg category.

He said: "I started off well, hit a couple of nice attacks and then it all started changing in the second round when he shot in on my legs.

"Instead of playing the safe option and keeping back, I decided to try and go for some more points and unfortunately he gained some points from my move in the end which brought him back into the game.

"The crowd has been great.

"I really enjoyed performing in front of the home support – my family, my coach and my girlfriend – I felt their support and I want to thank them for that."
