AMIR Khan believes victory against Devon Alexander in Las Vegas next month could finally set up a dream showdown with Floyd Mayweather.

Bolton superstar Khan will return to the ring when he tops the bill at the MGM Grand on December 13 against the St Louis star – a year on from when the pair had been scheduled to meet.

And he is relishing the battle, knowing the prize that could be on offer for the victor.

Khan said: "I am excited about this fight. It’s massive.

"This fight will take the winner to a different level again.

"There is a lot to gain for both of us – to mix it at the elite level."

Khan will put his 29-3 professional record on the line against Alexander in what has all the makings of a classic for the WBC silver welterweight title.

And Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya is convinced the winner will be propelled into the biggest fights in 2015.

De La Hoya added: "We are excited and thrilled about this card.

"Devon Alexander has true fighting spirit, while Amir Khan is well-respected and people look up to him.

"His work ethic is one of the best in the sport. He is a winner.

"There are high stakes in this fight with the possibility of the big prize of either Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao up next for the winner.

"If he wins, I certainly expect Amir Khan to get Mayweather next."
