TYLDESLEY Ladies water polo team defeated Liverpool 16-7 to secure a place in the British Water Polo League Championship One - the first time Tyldesley have qualified for this level of competition.

Tyldesley started in impressive form with a quick goal from Grace Morley after a minute.

At the end of the quarter Tyldesley were leading by 6-1 with another goal by Morley, Jo Costello (two), Lucy Aspinall, and Nicola Holt's first goal of the season.

In the second quarter, the game was a lot closer with both teams scoring two goals with Aspinall adding to her total with two further strikes.

At half time the score was 8-3 to Tyldesley.

In the third quarter Tyldesley pulled away scoring 5-1 with further goals by Aspinall (two), Morley (two) and Jo Costello.

Going into the final quarter, Tyldesley were leading 13-4 and the Pelican-based side scored three goals through Morley (two) and Holt

Elsewhere, Tyldesley Ladies took on league leaders London Penquins and lost 9-2.

Penquins are an experienced national league team that had been relegated from Division One last year.

They showed their experience by playing a very controlled game of waterpolo.

In the first quarter Penquin scored two goals without a response from Tyldesley.

In the second quarter Penquin scored 4 goals and Tyldesley scored a goal from Grace Morley through a penalty at half time to be trailing 6-1.

Penquin scored the only goal making the score 7 to 1 going into the final quarter. Penquin added two more and Megan Price replied with a long shot to leave the final score 9-2.
