PROMOTER Eddie Hearn is predicting big things in 2015 for Bury boxer Scott Quigg after a fifth successful defence of his WBA super bantamweight title in Liverpool on Saturday night.

Quigg was made to work hard by stubborn Japanese opponent Hidenori Ohtake at the Echo Arena but was always on the front foot and was a comfortable victor with a unanimous points decision.

It extended the 26-year-old’s unbeaten record to 32 fights with now 30 wins and all eyes will now be on potential blockbusting unification dates with IBF champion Carl Frampton and WBC holder Leo Santa Cruz.

That is what Hearn wants for his world champion and he remains committed to delivering the big pay days for the Bury star.

Matchroom boss Hearn said: “We want the big fights but it takes two to tango.

“Eeveryone wants the Frampton fight and there is Santa Cruz too – Scott will even fight (Guillermo) Rigondeaux.

“He is ready for these fights and we hope everyone can get to the table and sort them.

“Scott is done for the year now but we will have him back in Manchester on March 28.”

Quigg is hardly the type to put his feet up for long but will welcome a few days rest after 12-round contest against a tough Ohtake.

The Bury star said: “He was very tough. I knew he was durable.

“He soaked up a lot and fair play to him.

“My right hand will tell you how tough his head was.”

Although the fight went the distance, Quigg was never troubled and Walkden’s former European light middleweight champion Jamie Moore, watching on ringside, believes going the distance will benefit Quigg going forward.

Moore said: “Scott was really pushed hard and it will do him the world of good for the future.

“Going into the bigger fights, it should stand him in good stead.”
