TOM Lancashire continued his return to form with an impressive performance in today's European Cross Country Championship in Bulgaria.

The Bolton Olympian, who has been out of action for two years with injury and illness, was 27th out of 70 competitors in the senior men's event.

In his first appearance for the senior team at the championships – having previously represented Britain at junior and under-23 level – the 29-year-old was the third of four counters for the six-strong British team, playing a full part in their fifth-place finish out of nine nations.

The performance will give confidence to the Bolton Harrier from Bromley Cross as he continues his return and targets his second Olympics in Rio in two years.
