BETHANY Farnworth proved she is one of the top table tennis players in the country at the recent Junior Masters tournament.

The 16-year-old finished sixth in the tournament which saw her come up against the other 11 other top-ranked girls in England.

She won six of her 11 matches, beating the number four ranked player in the country, Denise Payet, 3-1 for her best result.

She said: “I thought I played quite well. I didn’t lose too badly against the top players and I had a good win over Denise in my first match.”

Each competitor met each other once in a round-robin format, and Thornleigh School pupil Farnworth was seventh seed for the event in Harlow.

The event was won by national junior champion Maria Tsaptsinos, who won all 11 matches without dropping a set.
