FORREST D got a flying start and put in a strong finish to beat Sharples B 12-6 in Section B of the Bolton Badminton League.
Forrest drew first blood when when Louise Quayle and David Travis took both games 21-11, 21-18 against Alison Adams and Steve Berry, who were playing second couple for Sharples B.
Catherine Jamieson and Chris Latham, Forrest’s second pair, won their first game 21-18 before Eileen Beeney and Andrew McManus replied by taking the second 21-18.
The third couples also shared their games when Lindsey Tait and Paul Davison won the first in a closely fought game 24-22 and Marion Anderson and Chris McManus claimed a comfortable second game 21-9.
When the first couples met 11-placed Sharples showed they meant business when Beeney and McManus took both games 21-13, 21-14, against Quayle and Travis.
With the match finely balanced at 4-4, but Jamieson and Latham then won both their games 21-10, 21-15, against Adams and Berry, to nudge eighth-placed Forrest back into the lead.
And they extended their lead when they won both the first pair of ladies’ games 21-17, 21-16, against Anderson and Beeney, strengthening their team’s resolve.
However, Sharples’ McManus and McManus kept their hopes alive by winning the first of the men’s games 21-18, only for Davison and Travis to hit back by taking the second 21-18.
When the second pair of ladies’ games was played Tait and Jamieson won the first 21-12 and although Sharples’ Anderson and Adams denied Forrest the second game by winning a nail-biter 22-20 Forrest had already secured victory.
Davison and Latham then went on to take both the final men’s games 21-16, 21-12, against McManus and Berry to take the match by a six-point margin.
