EACH week, Warren Barlow, chairman of the Bolton, Bury and District Football League, gives us the lowdown on the latest goings on in the flourishing competition.

THIS week, I would like to touch on our partnership with Bolton Wanderers.

Birmingham City were hailed in the national press (in the Guardian) for starting a ticketing scheme which supported grassroots sports.

Wanderers have been running the Club Together Scheme since 2010 and have paid out more than £120,000, in cashback to local football teams, sports clubs, schools and charities.

For the past five years the BBDFL and Wanderers have signed a formal partnership which has brought great benefit to both organisations, such as coach education advice, physio support, direct access to the club via Wanderers employee John Haworth who is our dedicated liaison officer, and who is on hand to support all the league members, with use of facilities and much more.

We support Wanderers in events and activities and recently one of our under 15 teams was invited to the academy to play a visiting team.

In addition the league worked with Wanderers, the Premier League Trust and the Football Foundation in our bid to build a community facility at Bolton's Academy.

Every player, coach and member has direct access to the club via Haworth and this partnership is truly two ways and is unique in the football world where money can be seen as the only driver.

The culmination of this partnership is our cup finals weekend, which will take place on May 9 and 10 with games being played at the academy and, barring any unforeseen circumstances, will also be played on the Macron Stadium on the Saturday.

The weekend is a celebration of everything positive in the game, admission is free and readers are all invited.
