GWEN Kinloch, Lesley Fisher and Elaine Roper won a national title at the British Masters Cross Country Championships last Saturday.

The trio clinched the female over-55s team title against a strong field of 142 runners at Ruthin in North Wales.

Running first, Kinloch clocked a strong 28mins 14secs over the 6k course, finishing 58th overall.

Fisher followed in 29:06, coming in 71st and Roper clocked 31:51 to finish 101st and seal the title.

The men's veterans' over-45s team finished fourth, an impressive achievement as all three runners will be eligible for the V55s team next year which gives them realistic hopes of equalling the ladies' title victory in 12 months.

Andy Staveley (V50) was 52nd in 33:42, Steve Nolan 62nd in 34:16 and Keith Thomas 73rd in 35:10.

Kinloch followed up 24 hours later with an impressive second place in the F55 category at the Sweatshop 10-mile road race at Bispham with a time of 1:09:25.

Lawrence McDonald ran 1:25:24 and David Pearson, in his furthest race for more than 12 months ran 1:32:02

The Stroke Association organised a series of runs in Delamere Forest, ranging from 5k to 10k in distance under the Resolution Runs umbrella.

Anne Larkin ran in the 5k event while Gillian McGowan, Jessica Sammon, Susan Wood and Rita Ledwards competed in the 10k and Louise Geoghegan, Ann Butler and George Butler raced the 15k distance.

At the Falesia 5k on the Algarve, Robert Short shaved seconds off his previous best time to record 18:30 for 14th position, while Ian Pudge finished 27th in 20:11.
