IRISH international fell runner, James Kevan, switched to the roads last weekend and achieved a fine second place at the Sweatshop 10-mile road race at Bispham, near Blackpool in a time of 53mins 38secs.

Paul Muller took the veterans' over-55 honours, finishing ninth overall in 59:21 in a field of 274 runners.

Two Horwich Harriers made their debuts in the 32-mile Haworth Hobble, which has a total ascent of almost 5,000 feet around the central Pennines, passing Top Withins, climbing Stoodley Pike and returning via Hebden Bridge.

Dan Gilbert completed the course in 6:33:43 whilst Michelle Sunter clocked 7:10:21.

The other two Harriers who battled the cold conditions, Albert Sunter and Gordon Stone, have done the course more than 30 times between them and their latest attemps saw the former complete it in 5:28:30 and the latter in 7:14:03.

Andy Ford completed an epic ultra run when he completed the 127km TransGranCanaria race in 26:18:39.

The course has a total ascent of 8,666m – or more than 28,000 feet and Ford's time gave him 220th position out of 608 of whom only 349 finished, such is the severity of the event.

Horwich RMI Harriers host the second GO Run For Fun tomorrow. The event is aimed at getting five-to11-year-olds into running, regardless of their ability.

The run is just under one mile and starts and finishes on the running track at Bolton Arena.

It is free and registration is open from 5.45pm ahead of the run which starts at 6.15pm.
