GOOD Friday lived up to its name for three Bolton United Harriers and Athletic Club runners amongst the class field of 545 runners at the Salford 10K double-lapper.

Karl Darcy led the way in 24th in a time of 33mins, while personal best times were registered by newcomer Tommy Harrison (36:02 – 67th) and M40 stalwart Chris Povey (36:39 – 87th).

Elsewhere, Cherry Collison (1:19:51 – 79th) and Julie Lomax (1:25:44 – 96th) completed the Calder Vale 10M.

On Saturday, Andrew Cafferky was Bolton’s sole representative at the Rivington Pike Fell Race.

He came home in 21:28 to finish 25th of 257 runners in the race.

Elsewhere, the Pendle Fell Runs at Barley provided another opportunity for the junior Blue Vests to gain experience in the technical discipline.

As the second meet in the FRA English Junior Championship series, each race provided stern a test for the competitors, though at least the weather was better than the previous week.

Rachel Bailey led the group via the under-16 race, clocking 28:40 for 17th while team-mate Lauren Holt recorded 35:27. Molly Philbin (25:19) and Ellie Forrest (29:42) ran for the under-14s, while Lily Philbin (5:56) and Oliver McNulty (6:30) featured for the under-10s.

The youngest representative was Sam Philbin (3:42) in the under-eights' race.

The Easter weekend was rounded off by yet another warm-up event for the track and field season – the Trafford AC Medal Open Meeting in Stretford.

There were some great performances by the runner/jumper juniors ahead of the Youth Development League campaign.
