STEVE Nolan won the men’s veterans over-55s category at Sunday's Radcliffe 10k.

He clocked 38mins 01secs and was followed in second place by fellow Burnden Road Runner Keith Thomas (40:29).

The club also took first and second in the women's V45 and V55 categories with Kirsty Normanton finishing in 43:11 and Lyndsay Darbyshire running 47:19 in the younger age group and Gwen Kinloch (44:58) and Lesley Fisher (46:22) starring in the V55 race.

Overall the ladies' team, comprised of Normanton, Pilling and Kinloch, finished second narrowly being beaten by Wilmslow RC.

The club showed strength in numbers in the third race of the Central Lancs Grand Prix series with 43 runners in the field of 312.

A small contingency of Burnden members took part in the Decathlon Duathlon.

Based at the Wilton Arms, participants had to tackle a 6k run, 28k bike, followed by a final 6k run.

Strong headwinds on the cycle route made for a tough challenge, with little comfort in the fact that the run included the long uphill stretch of Smithills Deane Road.

Burnden were also well represented on the volunteer front with Ann Butler, Gillian McGowan, Jess Sammon, Dianne Morrison, Rita Ledwards and Anne Larkin all helping to make the event successful.

Further afield Paul Johnson was the sole representative at the Yorkshire half marathon, Sheffield, finishing in a time of 1:54:20.

Representing Burnden abroad at the Rotterdam Marathon, Dave Beevers achieved his ambition of completing the 26.2-mile run in memory of his late wife Diane. Completing the run in 5:28:23, Dave was joined by Julie Newton on the trip who ran 4:24:07.
