A BOLTON martial artist is celebrating after being crowned world champion after competing in an international competition.

Sam Derby from the North West Warriors club competed in the ISKA World Championships held in Portugal and has not retained the title for the third consecutive year.

The 16-year-old had to move up a weight to the boys under-67kg section which is the weight above the section he qualified in, fighting opposition from North Cyprus winning with a massive point spread.

Paul Smith organiser said: "Sam won his first world title after joining North West Warriors in 2011 and has gone on to win several other titles since including, very recent ISKA British, WTKA European and most recently his 3rd ISKA World Title.

"Sam has been doing so well and has and still is going from strength to strength.

"At North West Warriors we pride ourselves on producing world champions time and time again, we are truly a club of champions.

"We run classes for all ages from young as four-year-old upwards and we would like to encourage people to come down to our centre for a free session."
