A BOLTON junior football team have been crowned champions at the new home of English football's training facility– St George's Park.

Moss Bank Juniors Under-12s Greens represented Rotary District 1280 at the national football nine-a-side tournament.

They beat a team from Essex 2-0 in the final.

Coach Barrie Bladen said: "We won the event after winning all of our games which were eight in total, and only conceded three goals the whole day.

"After which as winners we were invited to go for a guided tour of the facility's which the lads absolutely loved seeing how the national team train and how good the pitches were compared to grassroots.

"It was a fantastic day and one the lads will remember for a very long time.

"After winning they all received a gold medal, certificate and of course the trophy."

The teams also celebrated winning the Bolton Bury and District Football League Under-12s Division A title but just missed out in the Chairman's Cup trophy.

Chairman Gary Russell added: "It is great for these players to do so well this season.

"Most of them have been together since they were seven and played together.

"They have won cups but this is the first time they won the league.

"They are in the top division so they cannot do any better.

"Marcus Howarth is their coach and the good things is they are being brought up to play the right way.

"I think playing on some of the best pitches at St Georges' suited their style of play.

"We have quite a few players going to Academy trials and despite it being good for the club, it could mean we lose them."
