THERE will be a historic first in the Bolton League tomorrow when players wear coloured kits.

First and second-team matches between Farnworth and Greenmount will be the first games ever played in the Bolton League where the teams will not be dressed in white.

Both sets of players will don pink kits in both the first-team game at second-placed Greenmount, where leaders Farnworth are the visitors, and in the corresponding second XI clash at Farnworth.

The initiative is for charity and will raise money for Bolton's and Bury's hospices.

Permission for coloured kits to be worn had to be granted by the League officials, who gave clearance with the only stipulation being that the colour of the kits did not clash with the colour of the ball.

Simon Booth, the captain of Farnworth's first team, said: "No-one has every played in a coloured kit in the Bolton League in a league game so it's a first for the League.

"It's all for a good cause. We have a good relationship with Greenmount and hopefully we'll raise a lot of money."

The second XI game at Farnworth, the main sponsors of which are Anthony Axfords Ltd and Per-fit Windows Ltd, takes place at their Lavender Road ground starting at 1.30pm.
