BOLTON boxing superstar Amir Khan has been named mandatory challenger to the winner of the vacant WBC world welterweight title fight between Danny Garcia and Robert Guerrero.

The British welterweight, who missed out on a mega-fight with Manny Pacquiao last month, fought just once in 2015 but was expected to face long-time British rival, IBF world welterweight champion Kell Brook, at Wembley on June 4.

However, 29-year-old Khan could now opt for revenge over Garcia if he wins Floyd Mayweather's old belt in Los Angeles on January 23 as he looks for a route back to world champion status.

The two-time former world champion was knocked out by the American in the fourth round of a world super-lightweight title clash in Las Vegas in 2012. Since then Khan has appointed Virgil Hunter as his trainer and and won five successive fights.
