Barber proves a cut above in Bolton win

BOLTON’S Interleague success continued when the over-45s defeated Bury 192-134 at Elton Vale.
Although the Bury side lost just one batter first time round, superb Bolton fielding helped dismiss the hosts for 55 runs.
In reply, despite losing two batters on the first round, Bolton powered to 103 with Michelle Barber scoring two rounders in her 28, ably supported by Maria Kirkman with 19 and Jane Trevett 15.
Bury raised their game in the second innings and added 79 with Joyce Roscoe hitting two consecutive rounders in her 21 total. But, needing 32 for victory, Bolton’s Karen Lord and Trevett both opened with rounders while Kath Rothwell (21), Nina Wright (14), Carol Paisley (13) and Karen Maslivec (12) all recorded double figures to give Bolton victory.
The juniors are next up on Friday at Elton Vale Sports Club.
Just past the halfway point of the BSF Ladies League season, two previously unbeaten teams crashed to defeat.
PJ Cleaning still lead Section J, but their advantage is now just two points after secondplaced Edgworth enjoyed a superb 166-136 triumph.
With just 10 fielders in the first innings, they dismissed PJ for just over 60 before hitting a magnificent 166 scored, helped in no small way by Chrissi Workman, who struck an amazing 10 rounders and six back to back as the last batter.
There was a further upset in the same division with New Inn B being unceremoniously beaten by Dunscar Bridge Ladies, who are currently propping up the section with just two wins.
Darcy Lever C&SC D also suffered their first defeat in Section H as they faced Pure Asphalt with several regulars missing, but remain two points clear at the top of the table.
Choices Youth Support made sure they continued their unbeaten run in Section L with a comfortable win over Westhoughton Central XI, one of three teams sharing second place.
Wally’s Eleven booked their place in the final of the Pike Shield with a thrilling 169-142 victory over Royal Bolton Hospital B in the semi-final.
With Wally’s just ahead 106-102 after the first innings, Lyn Salmon scored 25 for Hospitals while Beth Hodgkiss hit 28 for Wally’s, who then dismissed five Hospital batters first time round and reduced them to 40 in the second innings.
Despite losing three batters at the first hurdle, Hodgkiss added another 22 to give Wally the win.
