Hospital Cup Final preview

STONECLOUGH FC are hoping to round off a fantastic season with a Bolton Hospital Cup win at the Reebok Stadium tonight against North West Counties side Ramsbottom United.

The West Lancashire League outfit have already completed a league and cup double and will kick-off next season in the Premier Division.

The village club have already knocked out North West Counties Division One opposition, beating Atherton LR 3-2 in a thrilling semi-final.

Stoneclough secretary Peter Conroy, who is also secretary of the Hospital Cup organising committee, said: "The whole village of Stoneclough is behind the team.

"It's a magnificent stage for the lads to play on, and hopefully they can make it three trophies in one season.

"We are on a total high at the moment."

Conroy has been involved with club since it was launched in 1986 and this season has been by far their most successful.

Stoneclough's task, however, will not be easy against Ramsbottom, current holders of the Hospital Cup.

Neil Hart's men disposed of Turton FC - his former club - in their semi-final and are favourites to lift the trophy again.

Ex-Wanderers defender Hart said: "It will be an nice way to finish off what has been a tough and, if we're being honest, a disappointing season.

"But we've got a great opportunity to put a trophy in the cabinet, put a few smiles on faces and just enjoy it.

"All the pressure is going to be on us, because we are the favourites, but I would prefer it to be that way than the other way round and hopefully we can give a good account of ourselves."

The Rams finished their league campaign fifth from bottom and Hart has vowed to draft in reinforcements in a bid for a top-six finish next season.

Kick-off at the Reebok is at 7pm.
