THE Bolton Table Tennis League Divisional Championships which were held over last week at the Hilton Centre attracted 56 players.
The tournament kicked off on the Monday night with the Premier Division competition and, from the 16 entries, the four players to reach the semi-finals were Tonge A team-mates Darren Howarth and Dave Griffith, Nigel Hallows from Radcliffe CC and Kim Barnard from Burning Desire B.
The first semi-final between Darren and Dave was close and decided over five games but, after being 2-1 down, Darren came back strongly to clinch his win in the fifth game, 11-3.

Nigel came out on top in the second semi-final against Kim, after losing the first game he recovered to take the next three.
Darren went on to beat Nigel in the final in three straight games to 6, 9 and 11.
Division One was played on a round-robin basis with the winners of the three groups playing each other to decide the champion.
The group winners were Derek Watmough (Nomads A), Paul Brandwood (Tonge B), and Dennis Collier (Nomads A). Dennis was the final winner after beating Derek in straight games and coming out on top against Paul over five games after losing the first two.
Division Two was also played as a round-robin competition which was won by Alan Crompton of Heaton E with five wins.
The runner-up was Phil Noden of Meadow Hill A, with three wins, and the two semi-finalist were Alan Bradshaw (Hilton G), and Steve Jones (Meadow Hill A).
In the semi-finals of the Division Three competition, Stuart McCaig of Tonge C ran out the winner against Alan Hibbert of BEN B in straight games.
Steven Hall, also of Tonge C, beat Brian Carter from Hilton I over five games, recovering from losing the first two to clinch the win in the fifth, 11-8.
Steven went on to beat his team-mate, Stuart, in the final, winning in three straight games.
The Division Four semi-finals were contested by two Lads Club players, Elliot France and Rajan Patel, and Martin Archer, of Little Lever E, and Callan Tollady, of Hilton M.
Both the semi-finals were contested over five games, with Elliott running out the winner against Martin and Rajan, winning the final game 11-9 to clinch his final place.
In the final between the two Lads Club players, Elliott came out on top over four games.
