PRE-SEASON at Eagley U10s is more competitive than most, and this year was no different.

There was plenty of fun with an added edge last week when the dads took on the kids in a football match.

Team organiser Dawn Woolham said: “We do it every year before they get the season started.

“The mums get involved too by bringing refreshments and it was strawberries and cream this time.

“The kids love playing with their dads and there is no shying away from tackles and plenty of the dads were sore with stud marks and other war wounds after the game.

“I even refereed the game myself and it was good to see the kids express themselves.

“It was a bit of fun for the kids and they really enjoyed it.

“The players won it last year 7-6 but this time the dads wanted revenge and won 7-6 after extra-time.

“The dads really pushed them all the way as they really wanted to win.

“It will make it interesting next year with one win apiece.

“Darren Yates, Lee Yates (two) and Neil Walton were the scorers for the dads with Walton netting four while his son Kian (two), Ted Woolham, Owen Marshall, Umar Khan Thomas Owens and Jake Woolham scored for the U10s.”
