LITTLE Lever manager Lee Buckley described his side’s 2-1 away victory at Bury GSOB as a “massive win”, writes Chris Morris

A fourth win in five games means that Little Lever now stand a real chance of remaining a Premier Division side for next season, and Buckley is delighted their fate is in their own hands.

“It was massive win for us, which now means we can concentrate on ourselves,” he said.

“We have two games left and if we can get six points then we can stay up, because teams around us have to play each other”.

Bury GSOB hadn’t won any of their last six games at home, and Little Lever looked to be on course to extend that run when they went in at half time leading 2-0.

Ben Wells grabbed the opener, smashing the ball home into the far left corner after being played in by Scott Bingham.

It was Bingham himself who scored the second to give his team some breathing room, as he fired across the keeper and into the net.

They were made to sweat late on when the Little Lever keeper hit the ball against his own defender, leaving an easy tap in for Bury.

The away side hung on for a vital three points moving them up to tenth. Little Lever are in cup action next weekend, before a big relegation battle against Old Blackburnians.

“Every single player was brilliant,” Buckley said.

“They dug in towards the end and worked their socks off, we deserved the win.”

Castle Hill’s chances of staying up took a blow as they went down 3-1 at North Walkden.

In a match that was overshadowed by poor refereeing, Castle Hill boss Rob Rostron said his team were unlucky to lose.

“Despite the scoreline we deserved something out of the game,” he explained.

“The referee was appalling, he was making terrible decisions for both teams but my players were getting booked, while theirs weren’t.”

They found themselves two goals down before half-time, and despite pulling one back through Sam Brooks, a late penalty succumbed Castle Hill to their first defeat in five, leaving them six points from safety.

Next weekend they are on cup duty away at Bolton Lads Club before hosting league leaders Mostonians the week after.

Ten-man Horwich Victoria remain in the relegation battle after a 2-0 loss at Rochdale St Clements.

Manager Danny Holmes was left disappointed with his teams performance as they missed numerous opportunities in the game to come away with something.

“It was a mediocre performance from us so I wasn’t pleased,” he said “We had chances in the first half but couldn’t put the ball in the back of net, and overall I expect better from the lads.”

The first goal will have really angered manager Danny Holmes, as centre half Adam Skelly missed the ball on the halfway line, leaving the Rochdale forward to go clear on goal and finish with great composure.

There was nothing his team could have done about the second though just after the break, a 25-yard strike that left the keeper with no chance.

Dean Spence had a late goal controversially disallowed for offside, and was then sent off for dissent.

Horwich Victoria now lie in ninth place, just three points above the relegation zone as they go into back-to-back games at Prestwich, with the first one in the cup next weekend.

Old Boltonians game at Tottington United was postponed meaning they remain in second.
